My Witch's Garden

Autumn 2025
I have been growing medicinal and magical herbs for years. This year though, I have been thinking about extending my collection of plants as well as organising myself to harvest, dry and use my plants.

I already have lavender and all the main culinary herbs. As well as of these, I have more unusual plants such as mugwort, lemon balm, nettle, yarrow, feverfew, dandelion and sweet wood ruff. This autumn I have added to this collection by planting: skullcap, horsetail, valerian, vervain, horehound, hyssop, St Johns wort, germander, bloodwort and passionflower. I have seeds ready to plant in the spring too.
Planning my witches garden has been both exciting and calming. I planted my first herb bed when I was 10, and always dreamed of being a weird herb woman. Now I am doing it with intention – but also noticing the ‘accidents’ along the way that have lead me here. For example, I grew mugwort from seed four years ago. It has spread in my garden – but excitingly throughout the village and along the canal. I asked my brother for a dehydrator for Christmas 3 years ago – with that and me sorting out the washroom I have the perfect space to preserve and store plants.
The wildflower meadow I have been cultivating for the last two years has yarrow, dandelion and poppy. Magical plants have been creeping in the whole time I have been gardening this land. A bit less lawn and veg and a whole lot more magic.
